Along with the new software, Hitachi has also released a new series of high-performance hardware subsystems, starting with the Simple Modular Storage 100 array designed for small businesses.  The system is described briefly below.

Overview of the Simple Modular Storage 100   (Back to Top)

The Hitachi Data Systems Simple Modular Storage System  is a comprehensive and fully integrated Internet SCSI (iSCSI) storage solution that allows servers to connect to storage networks using iSCSI..

iSCSI is a standard for linking data storage devices over a network and transferring data by carrying SCSI commands over IP networks. On the Hitachi Simple Modular Storage system, iSCSI disks reside on an expandable RAID-protected volume, but appear to a client machine as a local SCSI drive. Connectivity to the iSCSI disk is established using a software package or PCI card, known as an iSCSI initiator, that must be installed on a client machine. The initiator sees the Hitachi Simple Modular Storage system as a target portal and an iSCSI disk as a target.

Please refer to the Simple Modular Storage System User's Guide for more information.

Tasks    (Back to Top)

You can partition and dedicate cache to maximize the performance of high-I/O operations. You can also leverage the Hitachi SMS and AMS systems together with the enterprise-class Hitachi Universal Storage Platform (USP) or Network Storage Controller (NSC) to implement a tiered storage solution to manage the data lifecycle. Simple SAN and SAN Starter solutions allow easy deployment. SAN-attached servers can use diskless boot, and Network Attached Storage (NAS) applications allow for high-capacity storage.
