iSCSI Ports

This help page provides information to guide you through the tasks to manage iSCSI Ports.  It contains the following topics:

Overview   (back to top)

iSCSI (Internet SCSI) is a name of protocol and interface for sending and receiving data via IP network. The inexpensive IP-SAN (IP-Storage Area Network) that uses the existing or ready-made network equipments can be constructed and operated with  iSCSI.

iSNS (internet Storage Name Server) is an effective method to manage many hosts and arrays at the same time. Hosts and arrays only have to know the address of iSNS. They register their address to iSNS and get others’ address from iSNS.

Setting up iSCSI Ports

The array communicates with hosts through its network port and an IP network constructed on Gigabit Ethernet. Such ports are called iSCSI ports and the properties of them are displayed in the iSCSI Ports list:

Item

Description

Port

This field displays he names of the ports in the selected array

IP Address

This field shows the IP address of the selected iSCSI Port.

iSNS

If the iSCSI Port uses iSNS the IP address of iSNS is displayed.  Otherwise the message Not Used is displayed.

Status

The status of the iSCSI Port is displayed.

Displaying iSCSI Port Properties   (back to top)

In the list of iSCSI Ports, click the name of the iSCSI Port whose properties you want to view.  The iSCSI Properties window is displayed, showing the properties of the port you have selected.

Editing iSCSI Ports   (back to top)

Before an iSCSI port can communicate with the network, you must set up the network parameters on the port.  Follow these steps to set up the port.

  1. With the port selected, click Edit iSCSI Port. The Edit iSCSI Port window is displayed.

  2. In the Edit iSCSI Port window, enter the information to configure the network settings. The IP addresses should be IPv4 addresses.

NOTE:

  • The Initial Setup Wizard. also has a basic setting window for iSCSI Ports.

  • When setting iSCSI port parameters except for the Keep Alive Timer, the iSCSI Ports on the same controller cannot process the access from hosts.  Please make sure to stop the host access to the iSCSI ports on the same controller before performing this operation. After the status of the port will return to normal, restart the host accesses to the ports on the same controller.

Editing iSNS Settings   (back to top)

Follow these steps to set up an iSCSI port to use iSNS:

  1. In the iSCSI Port property window, click Edit iSNS Settings. The Edit iSNS Settings window is displayed.

  2. Verify that iSNS exists in the network to which the iSCSI port is connected and that the it is able to communicate with the iSCSI port.

  3. In the Edit iSNS Settings window, click the Use iSNS and enter the iSNS information for your network. You can configure the same iSNS settings for multiple iSCSI Ports in the array.
