This help page provides information to guide you through the tasks and procedures to manage remote replication using Navigator 2. It contains the following topics:
Remote replication includes two methods of backing up information: TrueCopy remote replication and TrueCopy Extended Distance. These methods allow you to create a copy of a volume (logical unit) in the array.
TrueCopy remote replication allows the volumes to be synchronous at all times
TrueCopy Extended Distance allows the volumes to be asynchronous
Both methods treat the source volume, also called Primary Volume (P-VOL), and its copy, which is called the Secondary Volume (S-VOL), as a volume pair.
TrueCopy remote replication and TrueCopy Extended Distance are optional storage features and require licenses to be installed and enabled or disabled before they can be used. See the introduction help page and the licenses help page for more information about setting up optional storage features.
You can use either of two methods for Remote replication: TrueCopy remote replication or TrueCopy Extended Distance. However, before you can use either of these methods, you must first set them up for use.
Both methods require you to create logical units that you will use as volumes in a data pool. Both methods also require you to set up a management port that you will use to connect to the secondary volume.
Pairs are managed in the remote replication window.
The list of pairs provides the following information about each pair. To display the latest information click Refresh.

|
Status |
This field displays the status of the pair. Each status mean are described below. Synchronizing: The pair is in process of copying data from the primary volume to secondary volume. Paired: Modification to the data in the primary volume is automatically duplicated in the secondary. Split: The secondary volume is the backup of the primary volume. Failure: A failure has occurred and maintenance of the arrays might be needed. |

Copy Type |
This field displays TrueCopy remote replication or TrueCopy Extended Distance. |
|
Group Number |
This field displays the number of the group to which the pair belongs. |
|
Group Name |
If the group to which the pair belongs has a name, this field displays the name of the group. If the pair does not belong to any group, "Ungroup" is displayed. |
To display the detail information, click the pair name. The following information is provided in addition. (back to top)

|
Data Pool Number |
This field displays the number of the data pool that the pair uses to store differential data If the Copy Type is SnapShot. |
|
Consistency Time |
This field displays the consistency time. If there is no difference in consistency time, "N/A" is displayed. |

A pair of volumes is two volumes on an array that have a specific relationship between them. They are named primary volume (P-VOL) and secondary volume (S-VOL). The primary volume contains the original data and the secondary volume contains an exact copy of the data on the primary volume and is synchronized with the primary volume. When the volumes are synchronized, any changes made to the primary volume are automatically made to the secondary volume.
To create a volume pair in the selected arrays:
In the Remote Replication window, click the Basic tab, then click Create Pair.
In the Copy Type field select either TrueCopy remote replication or TrueCopy Extended Distance. The volumes listed in the Primary volume and Secondary volume list boxes change according to the selected function.
In the Pair Name field, enter a name.
Select a remote array.
Select a primary volume and a secondary volume. Both the primary and secondary volumes must be the same size.
Select the data pool in the data pool number drop-down list, and enter the pool number of the remote array.
If you do not need to change anything in the Advanced Settings tab, skip steps 8, 9, and 10. Otherwise, click the Advanced tab.
In the Advanced tab, select Group Number or Group Name if necessary.
Select a Copy Pace from the drop-down list.
To set the secondary volume to copy data from the primary volume, click the check box for this function.
Click OK to save the setting and continue, or Cancel to exit without creating a pair.
In the displayed message box, read the confirmation and warnings, then click the check box to the left of the text to agree.
Click Confirm to continue or Cancel to close the window and exit without creating a pair.
When the pair has been created, a message box is displayed. Click Close to exit the window and go back to the Remote Replication window. You should now be able to see the new pair listed in this window.
To delete a pair:
Click the check box to the left of the pairs that you want to delete and click Delete Pair in Pairs list.
In the displayed message box, read the confirmation and warnings and click the check box to the left of sentence to agree the confirmation and Click Confirm to continue or Cancel to close the window and exit without deleting pairs.
When the pair has been deleted, a message box is displayed. Click Close to exit the window and go back to the Remote Replication window. You should now be able to see that the pair is not listed in the window.
To split a pair:
In the Remote Replication window, click the check box to the left of the pairs that you want to split and click Split Pair. The Split Pair dialog box is displayed.
In the Option field, enter a description to identify the pair after it is split.
Click OK to continue or Cancel to close the window and exit without splitting the pairs
When the pair has been split, a message box is displayed. Click Close to exit the window and go back to the Remote Replication window. You should now be able to see that the pair status is changed to Split in the Remote Replication window.
To re-synchronize a pair:
Click the check box to the left of the pairs that you want to re-synchronize and click Resync Pair in the Paris list.
In the displayed message box, read the confirmation and warnings and click the check box to the left of sentence to agree the confirmation and Click Confirm to continue or Cancel to close the window and exit without re-synchronizing pairs.
When the pair has been re-synchronized, a message box is displayed. Click Close to exit the window and go back to the Local Replication window. You should now be able to see that the pair status is changed to Paired or Synchronizing in the Pairs list.
To edit the description of a pair of volumes:
In the Arrays tree, select Replication > Remote Replication. The Remote Replication window is displayed. The window contains a table showing all of the pairs that have been created for he selected array.
In the table, click the check box to the left of the name of the pair whose settings you want to change.
Click Edit Pair. The Edit Pair dialog box is displayed.
As needed enter a new name or edit an existing name in the Pair Name field.
As needed enter a new name or edit an existing name in the Group Name field.
As needed, select a copy pace (speed) from the drop-down list of available speeds.
Click OK to continue or Cancel to close the window and exit without editing pair information.
When the pair information has been changed, a message box is displayed. Click Close to exit the window and go back to the Remote Replication window. The Remote Replication window displays the updated pair information.
