Setting Up Replication

This help page provides information to guide you through the procedure to set up for local replication. It contains the following topics:

Overview   (back to top)

Before using local replication, you must first create at least one data pool and at least one snapshot logical unit in each data pool.  Data pools and snapshot logical units are described briefly below and explained in detail on their respective help pages.  Click the links in the descriptions below to display the detailed help pages.

Data Pools   (back to top)

A data pool is a logical entity that contains one or more logical units.

Managing data pools includes two primary operations :creating a data pool and adding logical units to a data pool.  Before you can do those operations, however, you must first create a data pool.  For more information on data pools, see the following help pages:

Snapshot Logical Units   (back to top)

A SnapShot Logical Unit is a virtual volume and is specified as the secondary volume of a SnapShot pair when you create a pair. A SnapShot Logical Unit is the following information about each SnapShot Logical Unit.

Number

This field displays the LUN assigned to the SnapShot Logical Unit.

Capacity

This field displays the virtual capacity of the snapshot logical unit. When you create a pair, the SnapShot Logical Unit is the secondary volume and must have the same capacity  as the primary volume.

For more information about snapshot logical units, see the following help pages: SnapShot Logical Units, Create SnapShot Logical Unit, and Managing Replication

Remote Path   (back to top)

A remote path is a logical path that connects a local array to a remote array. The Remote Path tab in the Remote Replication tree is used to set up and manage remote paths. It displays the status of the remote paths in an array and provides functions to change the remote path information.

To display the Remote Paths tab, in the Arrays tree, click Replication > Remote Replication > Setup > Remote Path. The Remote Path window is displayed with the serial number of remote array(s) in a table within the tab, as shown in the following table.

Item

Description

Remote Serial Number

This is the Serial Number of the remote array.

Status &endash; Path0

This field displays the status of Path0 between local array (i.e. the selected array) and remote array.

Status &endash; Path1

This field displays the status of Path1 between local array (i.e. the selected array) and remote array

The Remote Path tab provides the following controls to manage remote paths.  See the Remote Path help page for information about these functions.
