This help page provides information to guide you through the procedure to set up various components of both local and remote replication. It contains the following topics:
Local replication is described in detail in the Local Replication help page. Before using local replication, you must first create at least one data pool and at least one snapshot logical unit in each data pool. Data pools and snapshot logical units are described briefly below and explained in detail on their respective help pages. Click the links in the descriptions below to display the detailed help pages.
Remote replication is described in detail in the Remote Replication help page. Before using remote replication, you must have a remote array set up and also have at least one logical path set up from the local array to the remote array.
A data pool is a logical entity that contains one or more logical units. The logical units can be primary volumes, secondary volumes, or virtual volumes.
Managing data pools includes two primary operations :creating a data pool and adding logical units to a data pool. Before you can do those operations, however, you must first create a data pool. For more information on data pools, see the following help pages: Managing Replication; Create Data Pool; and Edit Data Pool
A SnapShot Logical Unit is a virtual volume used in local replication and is specified as the secondary volume of a SnapShot pair when you create a pair. A SnapShot Logical Unit is defined by the following:
|
Item |
Description |
|
Number |
This field displays the LUN assigned to the SnapShot Logical Unit. |
|
Capacity |
This field displays the virtual capacity of the snapshot logical unit. When you create a pair, the SnapShot Logical Unit is the secondary volume and must have the same capacity as the primary volume. |
For more information about snapshot logical units, see the following help pages: SnapShot Logical Units, Create SnapShot Logical Unit, and Managing Replication
A remote path is a logical path used in remote replication. It connects a local array to a remote array. The Remote Path tab in the Remote Replication tree is used to set up and manage remote paths. It displays the status of the remote paths in an array and provides functions to change the remote path information.
To display the Remote Paths tab, in the Arrays tree, click Replication > Remote Replication > Setup > Remote Path. The Remote Path window is displayed. It contains a table that displays the following information about the remote array(s).
The Remote Path tab provides the following controls to manage remote paths. See the Remote Path help page for information about these functions:
Create Path
Recover Path 0
Recover Path 1
Edit Path
Delete Path
