Modifying Properties of a Clone File System

You can modify properties of a clone file system including the name, description, or split speed.

Procedure

  1. Go to the user interface of clone file systems in vStore.

The operation path varies with user types:

    • System user: Click vStore, select the desired vStore, and click Details to go to the vStore view. Choose Data Protection > Clone.
    • vStore user: In the vStore view, choose Data Protection > Clone.

  2. Select a clone file system whose properties you want to modify.

    1. In the left file system directory tree, select a parent file system node where the clone file system you want to modify resides.
    2. In the right, select a clone file system you want to modify.

  3. Modify properties of the clone file system.

    1. Click Properties.

You can also right-click the clone file system and choose Properties from the short-cut menu.

The Clone File System Properties: xxx dialog box is displayed (xxx: name of the clone file system).

    2. Modify the name, description, and split speed of the clone file system.

      Table 1 describes related parameters.

Table 1 Parameters of a clone file system

    Parameter

    Description

    Value

    Name

Specifies the name of a clone file system.

    [Value range]

    • The name must be unique.
    • The name contains only letters, digits, and underscores (_).
    • The name contains 1 to 255 characters.

    [Example]

    Clone002

    Description

    Describes a clone file system.

    [Value range]

The description contains 0 to 255 characters.

    Split Speed

Specifies the speed of splitting a clone file system.

    [Value range]

    • Highest: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 100 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the shortest period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is light.
    • High: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 50 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the short period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is relatively light.
    • Medium: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 20 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the long period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is relatively heavy.
    • Low: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 10 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the longest period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is heavy.

    Security Style

The security style defines the access control mechanism of the file system accessible through multiple protocols.

    • Mixed

Applies to the scenario in which both CIFS and NFS users can access and control the file system. Either CIFS or NFS permissions are valid. The latest configured permissions prevail.

    • Native

Applies to the scenario in which Windows NT ACLs control CIFS users' permissions and UNIX mode bits control NFS users' permissions. In this mode, Windows NT ACLs and UNIX mode bits will neither affect nor synchronize with each other.

      • For CIFS share access, the system checks whether a Windows user has the access permission based on the Windows NT ACLs.
      • For NFS share access, the system checks whether a UNIX user has the access permission based on the UNIX mode bits.
    • NTFS

Applies to the scenario in which Windows NT ACLs control CIFS users' permissions.

    • UNIX

Applies to the scenario in which UNIX mode bits, NFSv4 ACLs, or NFSv3 ACLs control NFS users' permissions.

    NOTE:

In the Native, NTFS, and UNIX modes, you are advised to enable user mapping and set Mapping Mode to Support only user mapping in the current system. For the NFS service, configure the default Windows user which must be an existing local resource user or AD domain user. For the CIFS service, configure the default UNIX user which must be an existing local resource user, NIS domain user, or LDAP domain user. If the default Windows or UNIX user is not configured, the performance of the NFS or CIFS service may deteriorate.

  4. Confirm the operations of modifying properties of the clone file system.

    1. Click OK.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation is successful.

    2. Click Close. The clone file system management page is displayed.
