You can perform splitting operations to obtain a complete physical copy of a clone file system. If a parent file system is damaged, its data can be recovered from the clone file system that is split.
Prerequisites
- A clone file system exists in a storage system.
- You can perform the split operation when the following conditions are met: Health Status and Running Status of both the parent file system and clone file system are Normal and Online respectively, as well as Split Status of the clone file system is Not started or Abnormal end.
Context
During splitting, services on a parent file system and a clone file system will not be affected. The time that a split takes depends on the size of the data source shared by the parent file system.
Precautions
- A split is not supported for a clone file system that has a child clone file system.
- Before a clone file system is split, the snapshot of the parent file system used for clone cannot be deleted and the parent file system cannot be rolled back to the point in time before the snapshot was taken.
- After splitting a clone file system starts, data written from application servers to the parent file system will not be synchronized to the clone file system.
- If snapshots are created for a clone file system before splitting, the snapshots will be deleted after the splitting is complete.
Procedure
- Go to the user interface of clone file systems in vStore.
The operation path varies with user types:
- System user: Click
vStore, select the desired vStore, and click Details to go to the vStore view. Choose Data Protection > Clone.
- vStore user: In the vStore view, choose Data Protection > Clone.
- Select a clone file system you want to split.
- In the left file system directory tree, select a parent file system node where the clone file system you want to split resides.
- In the right, select a clone file system you want to split.
A storage system supports concurrent splitting of multiple clone file systems.
- Split a clone file system.
- Click Split.
You can also right-click the clone file system and choose Split from the shortcut menu.
When you select a single clone file system to split, the Split xxx dialog box is displayed (xxx: name of the clone file system).
When you select multiple clone file systems to split, the Split dialog box is displayed.
- Select Split Speed whose default value is Medium.
- Low: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 10 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the longest period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is heavy.
- Medium: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 20 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the long period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is relatively heavy.
- High: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 50 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the short period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is relatively light.
- Highest: The speed is normally from 0 MB/s to 100 MB/s. Splitting will be completed in the shortest period. This value is applicable to scenarios where the service load is light.
- Select or deselect Delete associated snapshots of the parent file system.
- Selected: If snapshots are only used by the clone file system and created by users, the snapshots will be deleted. If snapshots are used by other features or other clone file systems, the snapshots will be retained.
- Unselected: Snapshots will be retained.
- Click OK.
The security alert dialog box is displayed.
- Carefully read information in the dialog box and select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation.
- Click OK.
The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation is successful.
- Click Close. The clone file system management page is displayed.
