Meru Networks Captive Portal feature alleviates authentication issues in portals, eliminating the overhead of managing individual authentication configurations. Captive Portal does this by identifying users by the subnet they logged into and treating them all equally. Frequently, authentication is done from a Radius server, but up to 32 users can authenticated from a local user list by overriding Radius configurations. This way, you can use your Wireless LAN security mechanisms such as Wireless Supplicant Servers, Certificate Servers, and VPN concentrators with Virus and Worm Quarantine Software. If you don’t want to enforce any security, Captive Portal passthru capability allows wireless users access even though they are not authenticated by the system. If you want more security, QoS exception rules can be applied using parameters such as destination host, destination protocol, and destination port. Once the QoS and Firewall Rules are created with a specific Firewall Filter ID, this becomes your Captive Portal’s passthru firewall filter ID.
