4.2.5 Details of SMART Values

Start by selecting: Maintenance > Recovery HD > Button Show Details.

With the Show Details button of the Recovery HD page SMART attributes are displayed (e.g. ID number, ATTRIBUTE_NAME, overall-health self-assessment test result etc.).

In the following table you can find explanations of some important SMART values in connection with problems with the hard disk:

Reallocated_Sector_Ct

When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks that sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area).

Airflow_Temperature_Cel

This attribute indicates when the drive's temperature exceeded the threshold in the past.

Current_Pending_Sector

Count of "unstable" sectors. If an unstable sector is subsequently read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped.

Offline_Uncorrectable

The total count of uncorrectable errors when reading/writing a sector. A rise in the value of this attribute indicates defects of the disk surface and/or problems in the mechanical subsystem.

With the Show Details button also the overall-health self-assessment test result is shown. This test is done permanently. Even if the status is PASSED it could be that the hard disk has to be replaced (refer to the output on the Hard Disk Status page, see Section 3.5, “Hard Disk Status”).
